A Splinter in My Heart

There is a splinter in my heart. When I close my eyes, stop to take a deep breath, turn my attention inwards, i feel the tiniest little bit of pain between the rhythmic pulses of my heart beat. I try to picture it in my mind, what this little thing would be, this little thing lodged between the fibers of my heart. It could be a tiny splinter of wood, from all those years growing up in a small town surrounded by tree houses, picket fences and baseball bats. (to be continued)
